◆◆Kurume Ramen: The Birthplace of Tonkotsu◆◆
Fukuoka residents take it for granted, but it's a fact not widely known across the country.
Although not widely known, Kurume City is the birthplace of tonkotsu ramen!
□The History of Tonkotsu Ramen's Origin□
In 1937 (Showa 12), the founder of "Nankin Senryo" devised a translucent tonkotsu soup, drawing inspiration from the popular Yokohama shina soba and the champon from his hometown of Nagasaki. Ten years later, after the war in 1947 (Showa 22), while preparing soup at the ramen shop "Sankyu" in Kurume City, it was accidentally boiled for too long. This accidental failure led to the birth of what is now the milky-white tonkotsu soup. In the 1970s, this milky-white ramen came to be known as "tonkotsu ramen" by popular acclaim. And from Kurume, tonkotsu ramen spread from "Sankyu" to various parts of Kyushu, and eventually to the world!
□Liquid Soup, Not Powdered Soup□
Most instant ramen uses powdered soup, but we deliberately chose more costly liquid soup to allow you to savor the rich, concentrated flavor and aroma of fresh ingredients! Liquid soup brings out more flavor compared to powder!
□Stick Ramen□
A local dish beloved by Fukuoka residents! Not just Fukuoka residents, but people throughout Kyushu love it.
Instant noodles boomed after Marutai Co., Ltd. launched their product in 1959, and "stick ramen" began to be produced by noodle factories in Fukuoka Prefecture, combining tonkotsu ramen's straight, thin noodles. Unlike common deep-fried noodles, stick ramen is non-fried and non-steamed, making it healthier. Committed to "making noodles that rival fresh noodles even as dried noodles," we use a "multi-hydration aged noodle" method, extending the aging time to create chewy aged noodles.
Incidentally, "Bo Ramen" (Stick Ramen) is a registered trademark of Marutai Co., Ltd.
□Monuments to the Birthplace of Tonkotsu Ramen□
There are two monuments in Kurume City marking the birthplace of tonkotsu ramen!
① 6-18 Hiyoshimachi, Kurume City: Located near the entrance of the drinking district commonly known as Bunka-gai.
② 2 Chuo-machi, Kurume City: Located alongside a yatai (food stall) monument at the west exit of JR Kurume Station.
