What is Kasuri?
Kasuri is one of Japan's traditional weaving techniques, characterized by dyeing threads where the pattern areas are tied off (kukuri) to resist dye, then woven to create unique, blurred patterns. Because these patterns appear "faded," they came to be called "kasuri."
"Kurume Kasuri" is a traditional textile born in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The warmth of Kurume Kasuri is born from the hands of the weavers.
Its gentle texture and long-loved patterns breathe a history of handcraft spanning over 200 years.
Recently, feeling the appeal of "new Kurume Kasuri," young artists and brands have entered the scene, receiving high praise and attention from overseas as well.
